My name is Aggie McCoy and I am so excited to be part of the Fè Fit family! I am originally from a small town in Michigan and lived there until I was 18 years old. After turning 18, I packed up and moved south, living in the Dallas area for 4 years. In 1997, I moved to the Austin area and quickly fell in love with the outdoorsy and healthy lifestyle this city has to offer.
I have always considered myself a pretty active person. In my youth I was very active in dance (Ballet, tap and jazz) and was also the captain of the Pom-Pon squad (drill team to you southerners). When I made the move to Texas, my activity level definitely fell to an all-time low, but with the birth of my son, Hayden, in 2000, I had something to prove to myself. I wanted my high school body back!
My fitness journey began with a set of video tapes (yes, VHS, not DVD ha!) that I would pop in the VCR when Hayden took his nap in the afternoon. It was 2 hours of ME time, that I looked forward to every day. Along with my healthy eating habits, those video tapes helped me get back into my pre-pregnancy jeans in 3 months! Spending that time each day, doing something for me, was probably one of the best things I have ever done for myself. As mothers, we always tend to put others needs before our own, but we need to know that it’s OK for us to do things for ourselves. The old saying “If mom’s happy, everyone’s happy”, definitely rings true.
I’m not sure when it happened, but at some point I decided to up my game a bit, joined a local gym and became a bona-fide “gym rat”! I would spend 2-3 hours a day, 6-7 days a week in the gym. I fell in love with every aspect of fitness. 5 and 10k’s were a normal part of my workout routine, so I decided to train for a half marathon. In 2010, I ran the Austin Half Marathon on Valentine’s Day. It was absolutely one of the greatest achievements of my life! I’ll never forget the sense of accomplishment I felt that day. But…me being ME (I get bored VERY quickly) I decided that training for half and full marathons, just wasn’t what I wanted to do. It takes a lot of time to run all those miles every week and let’s face it….it’s majorly boring! That’s when I found CrossFit.
At the time I found crossfit, my 15 year marriage was ending and I was feeling depressed and unsure of my future. That all changed when I walked through the garage doors of the box (crossfitter lingo for “gym”). Everyone was so positive and inspiring – like a family, and exactly what I needed to help me through my divorce stress. There, I was in my element and excelled at “The Sport of Fitness”. It wasn’t long before I gave up my gym rat status at the local globo gym and became a full time crossfitter. Not only did I fall in love with this way of life, but I wanted to share it with others and help those that needed it, reach their own fitness goals. Almost one year after I began crossfit, I received my Level -1 certification to coach CrossFit classes and began my coaching career at CrossFit Round Rock.
I have been a coach and personal trainer at CFRR for almost 3 years now, and nothing gives me more joy than to help my members and training clients achieve the goals they have set for themselves! I have had some amazing adventures along the way and know none of this would be possible, without the support of my fellow coaches at CrossFit Round Rock. Not only did I have the pleasure of participating in the Fè Fit video shoot, but I have also been privileged to be in a CrossFit Reebok photo shoot that is used for advertisements in stores and online.
To me, one of the greatest aspects of fitness, is that we as women, are on the same playing field as the men. We are strong, capable, and in charge of our bodies and health. So mothers, PLEASE take care of yourselves!! Whether it be CrossFit, Fé, or being active in the park – it doesn’t matter! Just get out there and move… and know that every minute you spend making healthy meals for your family and taking care of your body, benefits EVERYONE around you. Be strong. Be beautiful. Be fit.
